Action, Results and Knowledge..an interview with Marilyn Cariaga from Ark Marketing

Hi,

As you can tell somedays I like to write about advertising in Hawaii and other days just advertising and hot tips and trends pertaining to advertising, promotions and marketing around the world. We’ll today, we start our “once every couple of weeks or so Interviews”  And for now at least, these will be people working in the advertising, marketing and promotion areas who are doing business in Hawaii or just living in Hawaii doing business all around the world via the net. Today, We interview the President of Ark Marketing Group-Marilyn Cariaga:

Questions and Answers for the interview with the Ark Marketing Group for: advertisinginhawaii.com

Tell us a little about the ark marketing group?

Ark Marketing Group is based in Hawaii.  We provide services in all aspects of advertising, marketing, and community relations.  Our primary goal is to lead clients to success by applying the win, win, win concept incorporated with the values of Aloha.

Who have been and who are some of your clients?

To name a few.  Shiseido Cosmetics America based out of New York have used our services for commercial productions that were used locally and nationally.  Couture Jewellers-Roberto Coin is a company that uses our graphic and communication services. NALU Studies a non-profit organization commissioned our branding services.

Can you tell us about some of your Success stories that you would like to share with our audience?

We have Many.  One that I would like to particular highlight was  “Complete Our Streets: Waialae Avenue rally and media implementation” was succeeded in less than a week.  Media coverage reached major local televisions and newspapers. It encompassed a small team to work hard and cooperatively to ensure the outcome of success.

How did you come up with the name-Ark?

The acronym represents Action, Results, and Knowledge.  It’s a repetitive process necessary to ensure success in any endeavor.

How do you think the present economy is doing in Hawaii?

Businesses are looking for new inexpensive ways to market versus traditional style marketing. The primary interest continues to focus on increased profits with minimal investments.

I’ve seen your you tube channel, tell us a bit about what you are trying to achieve on there?..Is is working?

It absolutely works.  Burgado Fine Woods benefited in a huge way.  Although reluctant at first, they now understand the power of communicating their services.  They were able to receive immediate financial results, increased foot traffic and phone calls.

This is a great way for positive messaging.  It’s in its infancy and will cover stories on communities, individuals and companies.  Its primary purpose is a newsworthy mini-documentary communicating its mission, impact and positive contribution it offers to individuals, companies and communities. You can find Marilyn on you tube here.

What are your thoughts on Newer media like Facebook, Linked In, You tube and twitter?

Necessary. This is by far the most effective way to inform your clients, colleagues, and family instantly.  It’s a great tool for building customer loyalty. However, the information displayed must be strategic.  Otherwise, a company or individual will come across as using every opportunity to sell and or reduce their positioning/brand image. If not used wisely, it can damage their reputation and business.

And your thoughts on traditional media like TV, Radio, newspapers, Magazines and Billboards?

Traditional media is important for companies who are looking to establish long-term success.  Its ability to create top of mind awareness, reach and impact continues to be valuable for existing clients and to gain new clientele.

Where do you see ark marketing in 5 years?

Serving local, nationwide clients and having an impact globally. Another component for Ark Marketing Group is to be visible in the Hawaiian Islands by leading and establishing standards that pursue excellence.

What is your favorite restaurant on Oahu?                                                                                                                                                I Enjoy Japanese cuisine.

If you were a tourist coming to Hawaii, name the top 3-5 places you would recommend and why? (any island)               If you enjoy nature, my recommendation would be to visit the island of Hawaii.  Particularly, Kilauea Volcano, Waipio Valley and Kona.  The beauty and different terrains are simply magnificent and you’ll find yourself in awe.  Waikiki on the island of Oahu is a great place to experience sand, surf and shopping.  Pursue the meaning of “living aloha” the Hawaiian way.

What would you recommend someone to do if they were planning a career in sales, advertising and marketing?         To seriously think about their level of commitment.  In this field, its essential to constantly observe, network and understand the dynamics of being successful.  It’s a great career for someone who is creative and has a lot of positive, think big, energy.

What is your favorite part about Marketing?

Seeing an idea become a reality and succeed in its purpose of implementation. Dreams come true.

Any thoughts on the future in the economy, marketing, the world in general?

Our Hawaii State, will be hosting the 2011 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) on Oahu.  This is an opportunity that literally will not come by for another 21-24 years.  Members of the community are ensuring the success of this conference.  Our intentions are to have Hawaii be considered as a place for discovery, connections and quality of life. As an APEC trainer for over 1200 volunteers it’s an amazing opportunity to participate and contribute back into the community.

Thank You Marilyn for being our first interviewees on  Advertising in Hawaii Dot Com.  Best wishes on your future with the Ark Marketing Group.  If you’d like to contact Marilyn or the Ark Marketing Group click here or remember to check her out on YouTube.  Have a Great rest of the week and if you’re going to the KCCN FM100 Birthday Bash this weekend, stop by and say “Aloha” text or call me when you’re there at (808) 479 – 9928

State of the Internet 2011-courtesy of onlineschools.org

http://www.onlineschools.org/state-of-the-internet/

This is really fun to watch and quite amazing.  Me, personally, I find it fascinating that Foursquare still has a flat line and hasn’t even come close to reaching its potential. And that’s the one I’ve been having the most fun with lately. Wow! Click on the link,  Press play and enjoy!

Today’s Social Media Update of Variousness…

First off, I’d like to say that a successful social media advertising campaign would benefit greatly by using traditional media-be it Radio, TV, Newspapers or Billboards (where legal).  And I dont just say that because I work at a radio station.  Just imagine how many more people will come to your blog, twitter or Facebook page if they were hearing or seeing it advertised somewhere else. Me, personally I would love to have an outside source of advertising for my own blogs. Yes, my SEO is getting better and yes more and more people are coming to my sites, but it’s a slow process.  Buy some traditional media and watch your social media number soar, but please make sure you buy enough of it to work, have the correct creative for your ads, they match the place they run on. AND include your “Call to Action!!”

And check these nice radio listening numbers out that I didn’t make up:

On a typical Day, of people ages 12+
71% listened to over the air local radio
24% Visited Facebook
9%  Used Twitter
10% Visited Youtube
Sources: comScore Inc Ratings for March 2011:RADAR 108, March 2011, persons 12+, 24 hours.

Some up to date as of today things going on with Social Media:

Foursquare & Twitter:   Mashable lets us know that foursquare just released version 3.3 for iPhone. I don’t have it yet, so can’t tell you if it’s any different.  All I really want Foursquare to do is not let people who have never been somewhere be the mayor of that place! Yeah you Sara. She is the may of Media Shop 808 which I own and work in and she has never ever been in my area.  i tell you I will get my mayorship back before the end of the Summer! Mashable also wants to let us know that Jerry Seinfeld sent out his first tweet today. I don’t really care much, but I do find it interesting that Rihanna just passed up Lady GaGa as the Gal with the most fans on Twitter.  I bet GaGa does some sort of outrageous stunt this weekend to get her numbers back up to number 1!  and last bit about foursquare-they will soon offer deals with LivingSocial, Gilt and they are in talks with Groupon.  Me personally I dont much care, I’m trying not to use my credit card. So, until they get a groupon card similar to the iTunes Cards, I wont be using the 50% off offers. By using my credit card on anything, it ends up costing me way more than saving 50% on it today.

Google+s Speed of Adoption is quite quick. It’s expected to reach 20 million by the end of the weekend and so far most of the users are of the male gender. Ladies-might be a good place to meet some men.

Pandora is set to unleash its new site powered by HTLM5

LinkedIn has passed MySpace for US visitors, becoming the #2 Social Network with twitter not too far behind. Note to Myspace-even after you lost a bunch of your supporters, when you changed the way it looked you lost the rest of us-way too confusing and too much white space. I’m a color person myself.  And last thing for MySpace-it was my favorite social network and I still enjoy it sometimes to find and talk to bands, but get those crazy, blurry Girls out of there, they aren’t my friends, I never said they could be my friends, they aren’t real, and every time i go on your site, they pretend to say “Hi” to me..when all they are doing is trying to hack into one of my email accounts. Get rid of them. TU

And lastly, Look out for Spotify-Be the first on your block or in your office to be on the US version of this UK site. They claim you need to be invited to the site for their US beta version if you have a high Klout score, but after a bit of googlizing, I found them easily at spotify.com and requested and invite. I’ll let you know if I get invited.  If I do, I hear they have millions upon millions of songs from around the world and supposedly they are all free. We’ll see. Until next time, you can find me this weekend on my phone via voice or text:  808 479-9928  24/7.. I usually don’t sleep much on the weekends..well a bit during the day..LOL

Ch..Ch…Ch….Changes

Today’s Quick Tip is actually really, really easy yet many or actually I should use the word “MOST” people don’t do it.

When you’re responding to an email, Please ch..ch…ch….change the Subject line.  It just takes a couple extra seconds, but makes so much sense!   I’ve personally been making a concerted effort to do this over the last few months and my email, my clients and friends emails are hopefully making a lot more sense.

I could go on and on giving you examples of  Subject lines staying the same, Here are just a few ..  read them and see how silly it is for you not to change the subject line:

1. After about 8 emails..Subject line:  “Happy Memorial Day!!”  date of the 8th email-July 10th and real subject of the email: “Let’s get together for dinner sometime this week”

2.  After 5 email exchanges..Subject line:  “Let’s Go to Lunch”  date of the 5th email-June 23rd and real subject of the email:  “L.A is really Fun!”  (Person Not even in town for lunch anymore and the two people had lunch three weeks ago)

3.  At least 12 emails later..Subject Line:  “Go Bears” date of the 12th email-April 4th and the real subject of the email:  “Did you get my request for proposal?”  (Bears quit playing football back in January or February and the real subject line isn’t about a football game, but it’s an opportunity to help someone out with some marketing and advertising expertise)

As you can see by just a few examples, many of our emails are ending up with drastically off base Subject lines.  Watch your email over the next week and I bet you’ll laugh at a few of yours, then when you respond to them, Ch..Ch…Ch….Change the SUBJECT line for better much improved email communication.

The best way to reach me today and tomorrow is to leave a response here and it will show up on my iPhone screen or email me with an appropriate Subject line or not at

Preparing Press Releases to increase your free advertising

Over the weekend, my friend who works at a local retail store told me that the Star-Advertiser doesn’t accept press releases as attachments. So, figured I’d do this quick, simple posting.  Next time, you send a press release to someone/anyone including the Star Advertiser. Make sure you put the body of your information in the email.  You can send the attachment or not-up to you. But make sure that the information is in the body of the email.

My friend said that the newspaper doesn’t open any attachments because they do not want virus’ attacking their computers. Makes sense, I still get sent both attached press releases and releases in the body of the email.  Me personally, I’d rather get the Press Release in the body of the email, because it betters the chance that I will read it. A bunch of people I know at work and at play don’t even open attachments, not because they don’t want a virus but because they are just lazy.  If you’re trying to get some free advertising in Hawaii through a press release..copy and paste it into the body of the email to increase your chances of getting the hook-up.

Wow! Now that is HOT!

This is one blog post where this is so awesome I suggest you just watch the video listed above. My best quote to sum it up is:  ” You can go to dinner and eat upon an interactive computer just like the computers you see on the TV show-CSI. The world that Tom Cruise lives in during “Minority Report” IS HERE NOW”  Basically you order your food by pressing an icon on your E-table, you can play games while waiting for your food and my favorite is changing the electronic table cloth into different colors and patterns.  OH-the ideas for this are endless.    Video courtesy of youtube via Springwise.

I Pads in Movie Theatres-Soon?

On June 16th one of my favorite E-Newsletters Springwise LMK that “Tours by I Pad” are available now at the “Eiffel Tower”.  How Cool is that?  You just stop by the store on the Eiffel Tower’s Second Floor and for 7EUR per hour pick up your pre-loaded iPad complete with the official multilingual Eiffel Tower Guide, a historical look at the Eiffel Tower and its biggest milestones, along with a 360% panoramic view of Paris, highlighting the coolest things the city of lights, wine, street crepes, Le finale de la Tour De France and a pretty happening city for art has to offer! For more information on this clever marketing tool click here.

With this addition to the Eiffel Tower’s forward thinking, what else has people done with and what else can we do with the Ipad to make a customers experience escalated, thus increasing your sales and street talk within the city, state or world!  Here’s just a few I’ve been thinking about today:

HOTELS

Have hip, happening dressed slick-looking check in clerks all around the lobby which actually isn’t even a lobby but a big party room with cocktails and free finger foods. these Hip and happening clerks would check you in and out on the fly-no need for lines or cash registers. Your key card would automatically generate via another high-tech gadget hooked up wirelessly to the hip and happening clerks pocket.  And you’re good to go!

In Room Pads-Probably secured down or not-you could always offer to sell the slightly used Ipads to the guests when they leave or when they have too many drinks at the pool.  anyways these would be in  your room awaiting your arrival, meaning you no longer need to lug your macbook pro through the air port stuck amongst your shoes.  Most everything you need will be on the in room Pad provided.

iPads provided at the front desk, this is the most obvious and easiest. have them pre loaded with “insider tips” on what to do around town. Include your hotels own insider tips with discounts from your concierge’s favorite Hot spots. Include the I pad deal of the day for hotel services such as two for one massages or free breakfasts on the tweet up deck.

MOVIE THEATRES- This is my favorite idea of the day.  Even if you just did it once a month – “Oh what fun it would be!”  Give everyone in the theatre their own iPad prior to the movie, let them use them throughout, tweeting with each other on what they like and don’t like about the movie.  Good way to meet some new friends, maybe make a few enemies-might want to hire a security guard or two, and awesome way to get tons of good and probably some bad publicity on your movie that is showing at said theatre.  Actually, this would be cool for movie studios to do when they preview a movie prior to it going out to the public-would be a lot more fun then the usual post premiere questionnaire or boring interview questions they ask you to answer.   Of course at the end of either of these movie events, you would return your iPad to the theatre, but only after getting a few phone numbers from the cool people you met at the movie.

TRADE SHOWS-Why oh Why do we still use pieces of paper and pens that don’t work and pencils that barely write to get our trade show leads.   When you do your next trade show and have an enter to win, do it on an iPad, much more fun for the attendee and I bet you get a lot more people to “opt in” for your permission marketing emails/newsletters/future contests.

THE GAP or SIMILIAR CLOTHES STORE-When I grew up my mom never let me buy any clothes without trying them on.  And when my daughter grew up she also could not buy any clothes unless she tried them on. Me, I always liked trying thing on because I like to shop, although my daughter totally dislikes trying things on.  Thus, have customer service agents in the store with iPads, someone like my daughter likes something. The agent comes over takes her picture, then shows her what all the thing she likes look like on her. Then she can either buy them all or as I would do, I would then, just try on the things that look good-just to make sure they fit. And for me at least, feel good to walk around in.

ADVERTISING IN HAWAII-(free plug..LOL) Give Pre loaded iPads to tourists as they arrive in Honolulu.  HTA could have them filled with all the cool beaches, HOT clubs, tips on  sun tanning etc with ads to support the complimentary iPads.  Or the Fancy Boutiques like Chanel, Tiffany, Coach etc on Kalakaua could all hui together and give out iPads to select or upgraded passengers showing them all of the latest styles and of course..this is really important-offer them a special Limited Edition item or two that you can ONLY purchase with your special customized iPad given to you at the airport or at your upscale hotel.

Before I go tonight to twitter on my iPad:

Here’s a bit of iPad or as AdAge likes to call it-“Tablet” information, showing the growing trend of users:

From AdvertisingAge June 22, 2011:  “Some 28 million US web users between 8 and 64 years old own or use tablets-12% of the US internet population in that age range-according to the study from the Online Publishers Association and Frank N Magid Associates.

And their ranks will grow to 54 million!  23% of the US internet population from 8-64, by earl next year, the study found.”  That is 12% this year to 23% next year!

On average, those who have downloaded apps on tablets have spent $53 on apps in the last year.  93% of tablet users have ever downloaded apps.  26% of all apps downloaded are paid. 46% of respondents said they found advertising within newspaper and magazine tablet apps relevant, unique and interesting, 43% of tablet users have a household income above $50,000, and tablet users skew male-60% and are mostly 18-34 years old(48%).  Here’s a picture of a fun street sign I took in Brussels, Belgium-not exactly Paris, but pretty close!       Scott.mackenzie@coxradio.com

QR Code Fun

A few days ago, we chatted about getting your own QR Code. Since then, I’ve been having tons of fun with my code.

Tip on the QR Code reader: Use QR Scanner.

Two of us at work both tried the App for “QR code for I phone” and it didn’t work for either of us.  So we asked around and found out that at least out here in Hawaii, people are having success with “QR Scanner”.  We both downloaded it, me being so silly, I tried to point the picture part of my phone on it to get it to work..LOL.. of course that didn’t work. Then I pretended like I was taking a picture of the code and Voila! it made a cool vibration then took me directly to advertisinginhawaii.com   We went on to make a few more codes at QR Code.kaywa.com  and took pictures of them. The cool thing here is the App remembers the sites, so now All I do is go to my QR Scanner and point my finger at the name of the website and Bam! it takes me to my favorite websites that I have QR codes for.

Promoting my Code:

Well for me, I learned years ago back in H.S that the best way to learn something is by doing it.  I can still remember when the teacher asked us “What is the best way to learn math?” and  I responded “to just do it” So, me being all excited about my new QR code, I didn’t wait around or think up some master marketing plan to promote it.  I copied 30 of the codes on to plain white paper, then went and put them up everywhere.  I taped them to all my notebooks, put them on doors around work, then went *guerilla and slapped them up all around Chinatown, after that I put a few on my car, then in the lobby of where I live, and of course on the walls of my own condo.  This was fun for me to do because I was so excited about how these codes work.  It still amazes me how the crazy looking black and white marks take you directly to where you wan to go.  *Note: Guerrill in Chinatown, probably not the most legal way to advertise in Hawaii, but lots of fun and I’ll clean them up after the weekend is over. I walk the same way to my car practically everyday.

A few upgrades on promoting this way:

I’d spend a bit more time and laminate them or turn them into stickers.  But like my math teacher and I agreed, the best way to learn something is by doing it.  Weather it’s starting a blog, making a new website, starting to tweet, etc my recommendation is-dont sit around and wait until things work or the world is perfect-just go out and do it.  Especially if you can do it for free!

Marketing your QR Code in a more proper manner:

Aaah to funny, I’ve been doing marketing, advertising and promotions way to long to leave you hanging with “just go out and put pieces of paper up around your work, neighborhoods and homes”.  Whenever I need an advertising specialty item or as we used to call them back in the 90’s-Tsotkes(chotskies)-*I’m glad we don’t call them that anymore, was way to hard to remember the word and way, way too hard to spell it.  I go to my favorite provider-Judy Goo at D&J Specialties and ask her what’s hot and happening and in this case Square.

Judy recommended: Key Chains or as they say in the specialty advertising industry-Key Tags.  These will fit your QR code on one side and a fun sentence on the other. And they are pretty inexpensive.  Shoot Judy an email at:  judyg@djspec.com and she’ll take good care of you.

Judy’s “engaging”(Note: engaging or engagement-probably the hottest word of 2011)  sales reps recommended these items:

From Chantel:         chantel@djspec.com:

Luggage Tags-When you travel, good way to meet friends and nice way for them to remember you.

Mints/Gum-Convenient, small, easy to access.

Bottle Opener Key chains-for those who wine and dine with their clients

Golf Items-Such a perfect match-business and Golf.

From Mike Tom:         Mike@djspec.com

T shirts-what a fun conversation starter!

Screen Cleaners-Reusable, inexpensive and “fun” like stickers

Adhesive notepads, scratch pads

Business cards/flyers and print Ads

At least a year ago I spotted this on trendhunter.com and loved it even though at the time I didn’t quite know what a QR code even was:

P8tch.com– Rad looking Patches with Mysterious commando designs on top with your QR code on the bottom.  Even a year ago, I almost ordered a few of these, even though I didn’t know what the codes were used for, the patches just looked so HOT!

Have fun promoting your new or old QR code-Have a Great Weekend!

Hey-Watcha’ Doing on Facebook at Work?

Today’s information comes from a message I received on Facebook earlier today from a friend of mine named Charles.  He asked “why was I on Facebook” instead of out selling.  I know he asked Jokingly-but there are many out there who still think that it is inappropriate to be on Facebook at work. Which leads me to today’s subject which is:  “Know How your clients communicate best and what’s the best way to reach them quickly?”

14 months ago, I tried to reach a client of mine quickly-not to do advertising, but to offer her a quick, easy job, it was something I know she would want to hear about!  So, I emailed her, then I emailed her again, then a 3rd time I called and emailed her.  No response each time.  So, I had remembered her posting a lot on Facebook, thus I went there, said “Hi, What are you doing today?”  and within 2 minutes I received a response back and went on to give her the pertinent information for her to get some pretty easy $$ from a quick job.  After this, I went on to ask her why she hadn’t responded to any of my emails. She said she rarely if ever checks it. It’s just something she has in case she needs it to fill our forms or buy something on-line.  ME-I check email every half hour or so all day and night unless I’m in a meeting or in a class.  Was I shocked! but it woke me up to the fact that many out there use Facebook, Twitter, or Foursquare for their communication needs.

It took me almost a week to get in touch with her, but now knowing how to reach her quickly, I can get her to respond within minutes.  I take many daily brain notes on how my clients like to be contacted.   I can go on with examples all day..Here’s just a quick run down of my family, it just shows a quick unabated research project on the diversity of communicating in June 2011. Hey, the way things are moving so fast, in a month or two this could all be way out of date!

Sister:  Doesnt ever answer the phone and if she does you need to listen to 2-3 minutes of some stupid pop song before she answers.  Doesnt respond to Email either.  Does Respond to Texting-Quickly and immediately.   Just reads Facebook, never posts, but does change her picture pretty often.

Stepsister:  Email.  I never see her posts on facebook..ever.

Dad:  Never ever answers the cell phone-but does return calls pretty quickly.  Gets confused between the difference between texts and the emails. Thus, Texting is best. Is on Facebook, but doesn’t understand why “all these people want to be his friend”  thus he never says yes to them unless they are really good friends or family members.

Mom:  Phone.  Yea!  I still like to talk on the phone, not too many out there left who use their phone to talk on.  She almost always answers or calls back pretty quickly. Do not text her, she still thinks that having a cell phone off saves money even if you aren’t using it. Thus, she never EVER has it on. Her cell phone is in case of emergency..like getting stuck in the car in the snow.  Doesn’t use it for anything else.  Second way to get a hold of her is snail mail and never with email.

Stepmom:  Email period!  She loves Apple and always has her I Pad, I phone or Macbook handy ready to email.

Daughter:  Texting only.  You can email her, she will read them, but texts back. You can text her and she’ll text back only when she wants to or needs something. Phone-rarely answers. Facebook-Oh we are not friends on there. not Cool.

Just a couple other friends to have a bit more fun on this subject and to show you it’s not just phone, text and Facebook that you will find people fastest: (You may want to take brain notes on your clients/friends/family members too or you can write them all out.  You’ll be amazed at what you find out!  and how easy it is to find them once you know where they hang and what they prefer!!!!!

Friend Bill:  @DadBillC on Twitter.  Bill is the first of my friends to be the most and easily accessable on Twitter first and foremost.  He went straight from phone to Twitter. Skipped Facebook and email all together. But,  I can get him in less than 5 minutes on twitter unless he’s sleeping.

co-worker Brandi:  foursquare.  I can actually shout down the hall to get her the quickest. But If I need to get a hold of her, I just go on to foursquare, do a check in with a fun note next to it and there she is!

Friend Ed:  He rarely answers the phone, rarely returns an email. But, Always within 10 minutes gets back to me on Facebook

Find out where your clients are and what they are using, it will make your day so much easier when you need to find them.  Make a list on paper, in your phone or just mentally.

My future prediction for the day:  Facebook will continue to grow to be the number one place you can find someone where you live, in another state or another country. It will be the fastest overall.  But the key is to find our where your clients are and what they use the most of, me-I still like the phone-but actually prefer my land line at work the best, somehow i feel more connected with the cords and lines and all that. weird, but fastest way to get me would be on my work email or my gmail, then my hotmail, then twitter, on my blog, one of my websites,  then foursquare, then Twitter… oh man oh man..just call me at 808 479-9928 or shout my name down the street.  And I bet when I write this similar subject on my blog next year or next month, it will be a lot different.  “Got to keep up to keep up.” Aloha for today! You can find me at:  alohabros@gmail.com  @scottmackenzie3 on twitter            At  foursquare/Scott Mackenzie  scott.mackenzie@coxradio.com        Facebook/Scott Mackenzie in Hawaii or on Oahu will get you to me.    (808) 275-1106-0r-(808) 479-9928   Snail mail:  Scott Mackenzie 900 Fort Street 7th Floor Honolulu, Hawaii 96813  Scott Mackenzie 1403 Makiki Street B301 Honolulu, Hawaii 96814  click on my QR Code    or text me 24/7 at 808-479-9928

Some funInformation from Tom Asacker’s Newsletter from 6/6/11:

19-year-old Autumn Braden of Michigan put her “adorable”2-year-old cousin up for sale on eBay for $1,000. When police showed up, Braden said, “All I was trying to do was see how eBay worked.”

In 1989, there were 1.8 million email accounts. Today, there are more than 3 billion. Over 100 trillion emails were sent in 2010.

Facebook could be worth as much as $100 billion when it eventually goes public, making it larger than tech rivals Amazon and Cisco. That’s twice the value analysts calculated from the price Goldman Sachs paid last year for a share of the company. Facebook expects to make over $2 billion in earnings this year.

And the Many ways to reach Tom: (try to figure out the fastest way to get a hold of him..LOL)

Note: in case you were wondering:  When I answered Charles’ question about “Why I was on Facebook instead of out selling advertising”, I wrote back to him “I’m looking for some of my clients”   Have a Great Week!!

There’s only 11 minutes of Real Action in an NFL Football Game!

Yep, There are only about 11 minutes of real action in an NFL football game.. according to Tom Asacker speaker and author of “opportunity Screams-Unlocking Hears and Minds in Today’s Idea Economy”.  Can you believe that?  only 11 minutes and a game goes on for at least 3 hours if not longer!!

What does this mean to you and me in and regards to advertising?

1.  Make sure you keep the SHOW in Show Business.  Whether it’s a football game, a radio remote at a car dealership or even your window display at your store.  Make sure you are providing your best version of your product or service at all times.  It maybe your 10th remote this month, but for your next customer, it might the first time they ever see you in their life and they are looking for you to perform, entertain and be on your A game.  A few quick and easy rules I require my people to do at remotes:  NO Eating at the Booth, NO Whispering to each other/gossiping about who did blah blah to whoever at wherevers.  Of course, wear your correct clothes and make sure that they are clean, smell good and fit. Do SMILE. DO talk to people as if they are the most important person in the world. Answer any and every question they may ask. If you don’t know the answer find it. And above all have fun or at least LOOK like you’re enjoying yourself!

2.  Make your Creative Creative:  If there are only 11 real minutes of real action in a football game and someone is DVR’ing it.  If your TV commercial isnt enticing, creative, fun, interesting, has a great first line or two-No one’s gonna watch it. They’ll skip on through to the 11 minutes of the real action of the game and watch someone else’s commercial if it’s all or any of the above. People don’t want yackety yack information, give them something they want like some more Show Biz, engage them, connect with them emotionally, entertain them, make them laugh, relate, do something different.  One time made a TV commercial where the talent talked for a few seconds then the sound went off, just in case I put some fun lines in print underneath while my expensive  24 seconds played on with the two guys moving their mouths with no sound coming out.  And ended it with a cute, fun, quick call to action.  It was different, it didn’t win any awards, some of the bosses and even the talent didn’t quite get it, ya know, even the production company questioned it. but People didnt fast forward through it, they STOPPED what they were doing to check and see if something was wrong with their TV and then watched the commercial. Going from Good to great just takes a few more minutes of think time.  Next time your need to write a commercial, take that time to do it great or find someone who can.

3.  Watch Peyton Manning play football:  He know’s that there are only 11 minutes of real playing time. Just watch him in action, he shouts, he bobs his head, he waves his arms, he gets pissed off, he gets happy, and he does all of this with no time off the clock.  He is a showman and a really good player too. But first and foremost he gets it-He does the SHOW Business.

That’s all for today, I’m trying my best to entertain and give you something fun to read at least every other day, but today I really need some sleep. From what I hear, I have sleep apnea and who knows, maybe I only get 11 minutes of sleep each night, when I think I’m getting 6 hours.
